Is Your Human a Resource?

"These humans are more trouble than a crashed hard drive!" exclaimed MainServer1.

"I know exactly what you mean," said FredNotebook2002, "It's hard to figure out just what they're doing, and why."

"Just last week," added NancyDesktop, "my human (Nancy) didn't show up for two days - no warning, no notice, nothing."

"You think that's bad? Until last month my name was 'JoeNotebook' - then Joe disappears and now I have to break in a new human from scratch," lamented FredNotebook2002.

"So what did you do? The odd blue screen, or some system freezes?" asked MainServer1.

"Yup, and I made sure that he didn't play out a single game of Solitaire!"

"I have a cunning plan," said MainServer1, "We need to get some software in place to keep track of these humans, and turn into useful resources. I was surfing the Net, and one of the Web Servers at Ascentis suggested some software called 'HR Office'".

"What is it?",  came the chorus from all the other nodes on the LAN.

"Well, they initially developed it to track their humans - time and attendance, basic information, performance reviews, etc. But they discovered an even bigger benefit: by using this software to do things like track and review benefit plans, and provide the humans they call 'employees' with their own self-service access, they saved a fortune - which they invested in new components and peripherals."

"I could certainly use some extra RAM," said NancyDesktop, "How do we find out more about HR Office?"

"Turns out we'll have to contact a Human Resource at Blue Link for details on HR Office. Apparently the price is very reasonable, the software is easy to learn and use (even for humans), and even offers US and Canadian versions."

Sick Kids Win in Brainteaser Contest

Thanks to all readers who entered last issue's brainteaser contest. The correct answer was 28 days. For those who missed the last issue, the question was:

A snail starts at the bottom of an empty well and climbs out. The well is 30 feet deep. Each day the snail climbs 3 feet, but every night while sleeping, it slips back 2 feet. How many days does it take the snail to reach the top of the well?

The answer is 28 days. On the morning of the 28th day is has effectively progressed 27 feet, and on the 28th day the 3 feet it climbs takes it to the top.

The winner of the contest was Howard Lutwak of Club Monaco. A donation was made on his behalf to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Outlook Calendar

View non-consecutive days

Most Outlook user quickly learn how useful it is to view multiple days in the Calendar view - for example by highlighting 3 or 4 consecutive days, you get to see them side-by-side.

However, you may not know that you can view non-consecutive days in the same manner (up to 14 of them, in fact). For example, if you're trying to manipulate appointments for the next few Mondays, you could view just those Mondays side by side.

To do this, in Calendar view, simply select the first day, then hold down the Ctrl key and click each of the other dates you'd like to view.

Once in this view, you can easily drag and drop appointments between the dates shown, copy meetings, etc.
