So what's new?
New column, new web site
, new designation

Regular readers of this newsletter point to the Tips and Tricks column, and periodic technical information updates in the main story of the month, as valuable information sources.

To add further value to you, starting with this this issue we have added a "Tech Corner" column. Each issue, this column will summarize up to date technical information about operating systems, service releases, and general software and technology updates. The inaugural tech corner updates you on current service releases addressing the recent Slammer worm, and other Microsoft online resources.

The Blue Link website has been given a facelift, and some new features. Check it out at www.bluelink.ca, and let us know what you think, using the "Contact Us" link at the top.

In addition, the newsletter now contains a brief summary of a case study, linked to the detailed version. The case studies featured here will include, but not necessarily be limited to, Blue Link customers, and will illustrate how real businesses have solved real business problems with properly designed and implemented solutions.

New Accounting / IT Designation

A new designation by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants recognizes appropriately qualified Chartered Accountants as specialists in Information Technology. We are pleased to  announce that Mark Canes, President of Blue Link, is among the first 91 professionals to be designated as a CAlIT.

In addition to recognition of Mark's 19 years' experience in the IT field, the award of this designation further underlines the Blue Link philosophy of combining business and accounting skills with Information Technology expertise to provide the best all-round business solutions.

Outlook Tip

Tasks with Attachments

If you use the Tasks feature in Microsoft Outlook to organize or list your tasks, here's a handy way of saving some time. Frequently, the work we do involves reference to documents, spreadsheets, emails, and other reference material in electronic format. So when we start the task, we have to go looking for these files in various locations on the server, in our Inbox, etc.

When setting up a task, include any relevant files (word documents, spreadsheets, or emails) in the task as an attachment. To do this simply drag and drop the file (or email) into the Notes section of the task (the large open area below the Reminder check box).

This way, when you are ready to tackle the task, you have all the pertinent information handy in one convenient place.

However, remember that these attachments are copies of the originals; it is advisable to delete these attachments from the task when complete.
